Full planning permission secured consent for the Arena, public plaza, pedestrian link from Bath Road into the Enterprise Zone, 45 permanent disabled and 200 temporary surface level parking spaces. Outline planning permission was also secured on adjacent land on the island site for up to 19,000sqm of complimentary uses (offices, houses, retail) with active ground floor frontages.
The applications were supported by an Environmental Statement produced and co-ordinated by CSJ. The proposed development was demonstrated to conform to the Development Plan and Enterprise Zone objectives, and bring major indirect benefits in terms of investment, jobs and new city facilities. It established a clear sustainable vision to provide the Arena in the city centre that maximised public transport, cycling and walking, as well as integrating with other planned infrastructure improvements.
