Arc @ We The Curious, Millennium Square, Bristol

CSJ Planning have secured a resolution to grant full planning permission and Listed Building consent for an exceptional tourist observation platform, Arc, which will stand almost 70m above Bristol City Centre.

Arc consists of a glass capsule suspended between two asymmetric carbon fibre masts that pivot on the base and land on the roof of the listed Engine Shed, home to We The Curious. It will carry up to 42 passengers and 2 crew on 20 minute rides to reveal the depth of Bristol’s history and culture.

Fearful of heritage harm to nearby listed buildings, the Conservation area and an overbearing presence, planning officers recommended refusal. However, the planning committee voted unanimously in favour, recognising the extensive social, economic and education benefits that the facility will deliver.

It is hoped that Arc will be operational by spring 2024 when this unique, extremely high quality design will make a welcome new addition to Bristol’s skyline.
