Tintagel Castle

Tintagel Castle

CSJ Planning Consultants working on behalf of English Heritage are proud to announce that the Tintagel Castle footbridge and footpath improvements around the site have gained a resolution to grant planning consent at Cornwall Council Strategic Committee. The works gained Scheduled Monument Clearance in August 2017. The footbridge, which was subject to an International design competition, links the mainland Ward of the Castle to the island Ward over a chasm left when the land bridge collapsed deep in our past history.

This has been an exceptionally challenging planning application given the plethora of national and international designations attached to the site and surrounding area. A full Environmental Statement accompanied the application and a great deal of stakeholder and public consultation was undertaken at both pre application stage and during the application process. CSJ Planning Consultants are proud to be associated with this project which we believe will greatly enhance accessibility to the Castle and will help in the understanding of the heritage of this important part of Cornwall’s history. It will also help to tackle erosion on the site and will act as a boost to tourism in the area.
